HY-GLAS - Hållbara ytbeläggningar av järn-baserat metallglas
Metallic glass has been shown to have unique combination of wear and corrosion resistance due to high hardness and lack of grain boundaries that promote local corrosion.
Of particular interest is Fe-based metallic glass, as it offers advantages in terms of raw material cost, supply chain resilience and environmental footprint. However, Fe-based metallic glass is difficult to process due to limited plasticity, propensity for cracking, and crystallization during deposition. Before embarking on a larger project to explore metallic glass as potential candidate for coating applications, a preliminary experimental study is to be taken up as a collaboration between QuesTek Europe AB and University West to establish coating feasibility. A preliminary evaluation of market potential and identification of application-specific property requirements will also be performed. These activities will form the basis for the development of a project plan for a full-scale development project to resolve processing challenges to meet property requirements for specific applications.
